In 1977, a group of citizens founded the Irving Community Hospital Foundation to raise and distribute funds to nonprofit healthcare agencies in Irving. Now named the Irving Healthcare Foundation,our organization has granted more than $27 million to restore and promote health in our community. Thousands of community volunteers have contributed their appreciated time and talent to help our foundation fund programs and services that create a healthier Irving. The following is a brief summary of accomplishments across the foundation's three decades of serving Irving:
1980
On June 11, the Irving Community Hospital Foundation raised $55,000 through a new volunteer-led gala, TexasFest. Also, Irving Healthcare Foundation completed a campaign that raised $4 million in support of a $16 million expansion project at Irving Community Hospital.
1983
The foundation established a Guild to serve as a group of key volunteers responsible for ongoing fundraising, public relations and public education.
1984
The foundation distributed free Lifeline Emergency Response Systems to help ensure the health and safety of vulnerable senior citizens.
1991
The foundation established its first endowment funds for equipment, educational programs and services. In addition, IHF established college scholarships for local high school seniors planning to pursue careers in health professions.
1993
Philanthropic gifts made possible a free immunization program for Irving's children.
1994
The foundation began a campaign to raise $3 million to help expand the Irving hospital's emergency department.
1996
IHF distributed child safety seats free of charge to new parents who qualify for help based on financial need. Also, the foundation established a Samaritan Fund to provide prescription assistance and medical equipment for needy patients.
1997
The foundation secured funding from corporate and community donors to purchase a Wellness on Wheels! (WOW!) mobile health screening unit. Also, the Harry S. Moss Heart Trust and other funders helped fund new heart-monitoring equipment for city ambulances that allowed Baylor Irving's emergency department to view the heartbeats of cardiac patients while they were being transported to the hospital.
1998
The Irving Community Hospital Foundation changed its name to Irving Healthcare Foundation.
2000
In October, the Irving Healthcare Foundation initiated a multi-million dollar campaign to help fund the expansion of cardiac services and renovate the existing women's center.
2004
IHF granted a record $2.5 million dollars in one year with most funds going to Baylor Irving for cardiac and women's services. The TexasFest gala celebrated 25 years of fundraising success with more than $5 million (net) raised.
2005
Managers from the Four Seasons Resort and Club visited Baylor Irving for a "Thanks A Million" reception honoring gifts since 1992 totaling more than $1 million.
2006
With visionary corporate support from Citi, IHF fully funded and helped open Irving Interfaith Clinic, an evening clinic where volunteer physicians and nurses provide primary care for Irving's needy residents. In its first-ever phonathon, more than 700 grateful patients pledged gifts to help IHF open a new heart lab.
2007
The Foundation raised and granted $1.75 million of the $4 million total needed to open the first heart lab in North Texas with magnet guided catheters, providing a cure for patients with irregular heartbeats. Baylor Irving's lab was the 51st in the world when it opened. Also, IHF celebrated its 30th year of raising and disbursing funds to ensure Irving's health.
2008
IHF granted more than $1.9 million in this business year. Most notably, Our Children's House at Irving received almost $600,000 for therapy and childcare services, and Baylor Medical Center at Irving received $1.2 million for equipment, education and program services. The Foundation made its first grant to the Irving Dental Center, awarding $120,000 to fund two of five treatment stations.
2009
Despite the challenges of the economy, more than $1.2 million that helped IHF's five beneficiaries serve the health needs of Irving's residents.
2010
Granted $1.3 million to our five beneficiaries. Also completed a formal governance alignment with Baylor Medical Center at Irving. Hospital employees contributed $130,000 during a spring giving campaign; at 65 percent of employees giving, Baylor Irving has the highest percentage of participation in the entire Baylor Health Care System.
2011
Granted $1.8 million to our five beneficiaries. Hospital employees contributed $170,000 during the annual giving campaign; at 70 percent of employees giving from Baylor Irving. Baylor Irving has the highest percentage of participation in the entire Baylor Health Care System for the 2nd year.
